Avenal City Official Payscales,

In Light of the recent Bell Scandal reported by the MSM, an inquiry was made locally by a citizen, wondering what Avenal city officials earned.

The disturbing news is quite shocking, but not entirely unexpected, The Avenal Chimes reports the City Manager Melissa Whitten's base pay is $115,000+ a year, they are only reporting base pay, so you know they are hiding other figures, but let's look at what else these city leaders are fleecing you for.

City Managers normally earn yearly Bonuses, as well as Full Medical, Dental, Free car and gas (paid by you) and a fat retirement plan to match these self entitlement programs they give themselves, and per diem for traveling on your dime. while we may never know the true numbers, I suspect those numbers to be in the 165-190k when you figure in all the costs and perks. is she worth it? in these financially hard times when everyone is hurting, you'd think our city leader would lead by example, and take a pay reduction as well. but naw, that will never happen. oh wait, let's cut teachers pay, let's cut back on school supplies, let's cut 14% from Unit 6 Members pay. bottom line, everyone is taking a hit, but not our city leaders, so, are they fit to lead? and set the example? Don't count on it.

Sorry Melissa, you can't count the children (inmates) at ASP as residents, since they don't pay taxes, but if it makes you feel better, go ahead and count them, to boost support for being overly compensated at the expense of Avenals' residents. I wish I could be there!

Now, with that said, let's take a look at Idaho's pay scales, Vs Avenal's pay scales. vs population.

Boise
Five highest paid:
- Police Chief Michael Masterson, $118,260
- City Attorney Cary Colaianni, $115,269
- Parks and Recreation Director Jim Hall, $114,973
- Human Resources Director Shawn Miller, $114,417
- Planning and Development Services Director Bruce Chatterton, $114,083

Elected officials:
- Mayor Dave Bieter, $91,229
- City councilors, $19,375 (part time)

Highest paid on mayor's staff:
- Jade Riley, $95,481
- Michael Zuzel, $89,116
- Theresa McLeod, $82,750
- Ross Borden, $81,700
- John Brunelle, $79,574
- Cece Gassner, $79,574

Boise has a population of 180,000 residents, our Mayor (Dave Bieter) earns way less than Melissa's reported 115k base pay.

We don't have a City Manager title here, our equivalent is the planning and Development Services Director Bruce Chatterton at 114k for managing the population of 180k Boise residents.

Avenal is nothing more than a small Bell Scandal. I do hope citizens have the cajones to take legal action.
